The Organizing Committee of the third edition of the Khalid Bin Hamad Youth Theatre Festival for National Clubs, Youth Centres and People with Disabilities approved the mascot of the festival, which will be held under the patronage of the HH Shaikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Athletics Association. Taking place from the 5th to the 17th of October, under the slogan “Painting_A_Smile”, the festival is one of the generous initiatives of His Highness in supporting youth in cultural and humanitarian fields, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in cooperation with the Media Office of His Highness Shaikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The festival’s shows will be held at the Muharraq Model Youth Centre.
The committee adopted Basma (Smile) as the festival’s mascot, so that the smile would always be present on all participants. The character was drawn by the Bahraini artist Turki Rashid.
The selection was based on the festival’s objectives, which primarily aim to instil the values of love, goodness and nobility in the hearts of youth by painting a smile on all participants, those interested and the leaders of theatre, which has become an important cultural platform in society.
The Festival’s Organizing Committee announced a significant increase in the sponsorship of participating clubs and centres by 100% in addition to the festival’s allocated prizes, announced as: Encouragement Award BD300, Best Promising Actor Award BD 500, Best Promising Actor Award for Three Individuals BD 600, Best Music Award BD 500, Best Décor BD 500, Best Writer Award BD 500, Best Actor in a Leading Role BD 800, Best Actress in a Leading Role BD 800, Best Actor in a Supporting Role BD 500, Best Actress in a Supporting Role BB 500, Best Direction Award BD 1000, Special Judging Committee Award BD 1500, Best Group Performance Award BD 2000.
The Committee will select from the participating shows to settle on 12 participants who will compete for the prize, with August 20 set as the deadline for the finals.
