The Director of the Youth Centres Directorate, at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs, Nawar Al Mutawa confirmed that the various initiatives adopted by His Highness Shaikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Athletics Association, Honourary President of Bahrain Sports Federation for Disabilities is witnessing a noticeable development each consecutive year.
He said that the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs prepared a comprehensive statistic on the qualitative and quantitative development of the events held under the patronage of His Highness.
He pointed out that this confirms the momentous efforts exerted by His Highness to serve the community through a series of initiatives that garner great interaction and wide participation of the youth.
The Youth Centers Futsal League Tournament witnessed the participation of 16 youth centres in its first edition in 2013, with 320 participant players, while the second edition in 2014 witnessed the participation of 20 youth centres with a total of 400 players, he added.
Regarding the third edition, Al-Mutawa mentioned that 2015 witnessed the participation of 28 youth centres with a total of 560 players, while the fourth edition last year included the participation of 32 centres with a total of 640 players, as well as 6 teams for people with disabilities.
The current fifth edition will witness the participation of all the youth centres in the Kingdom of Bahrain with a total of 36 centres and 720 players from different governorates and villages of the Kingdom, in addition to 8 teams representing the category of people with disabilities. The competitions will be held through the coming months of July and August.
Regarding the Shaikh Khalid Theatre Festival for National Clubs, Youth Centres and People with Disabilities, Al Mutawa said that the first edition in 2015 witnessed the participation of 10 teams representing different clubs and centres with a total of 250 participants. Last year’s edition was attended by 20 teams and 490 participants, which indicates a clear qualitative leap which will further develop.
The remarkable development and the large increase in the number of participants from one edition to the next confirmed that the initiatives will differ in a qualitative manner to garner admiration. The keenness of Bahraini youth to participating in the events confirms their success, he stated.
Al Mutawa also praised His Highness’ initiative to launch the first World Championship for Mind Games, which will also have a great turnout.
