His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Honourary President of the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation, extended his deepest congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Ruler of the country, May God Protect Him, the wise leadership and His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, on the occasion of the National Mixed Martials Arts (MMA) team achieving 4 medals, including one gold and three bronze in the 2017 International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) Asian Open Championships, held in Singapore and organized by the IMMAF from June 12-16.
The National team won gold in the 66kg category title after fighter Abdulmanap Megomedov, defeated Russia’s Bekzat Zhassiya in the finals, while Hussain Ayyad, Mohamed Abbas, and Nayef Fikri achieved bronze medals in the 56.2kg, 70kg and 77kg categories.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa stressed that this result reflects the position Bahraini sports has reached to and it achieved this result due to the support of the wise leadership, which contributed to strengthen the sports and reflected in helping the fighters reach the crowning podiums and achieve honourable results, that raise the flag of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
His Highness praised the efforts of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa in implementing the vision of the wise leadership to promote the sport movement, in the Kingdom, through effective programmes aimed at developing all sports, especially the sport of mixed martial arts, which has become a prominent sport in the Kingdom, strengthening Bahrain’s position on the continental and international map in this game.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa said: “We are excited and filled with joy over the National MMA team achievement in the Asian Open for Amateurs. It confirms that we are on the right path according to the plan we have set and we will continue to follow it till Bahraini MMA reaches the top and achieve more. In a short period, Bahrain has managed to make its presence with power through high level and honourable results, confirming its rapid development and competition with developed countries in this sport. Our dream will not stop at this point, we will continue the effort to tell the world that Bahrain has become a developed country and it can be the first in this sport.”
His Highness added: “We are proud of the capabilities of our fighters, which were clearly displayed in this participation, and strengthened our presence and presence at the continental and international levels. This participation has many goals, most notably achieving honourable results. It is an opportunity to prepare our fighters for the next participations, especially the most important participation, which is the World Championship for Amateurs, which will be hosted and organized by the Kingdom of Bahrain from November 12 to 19. We look forward to gain a gold medal in it.”
His Highness praised the technical level shown by the fighters of the national team during the Asian Open Championship, and appreciated the efforts exerted by the technical staff led by coach Eldar Eldarov to prepare the team in a suitable manner for this participation. His Highness also praised the Bahraini Mixed Martial Arts Federation, under the chairmanship of His Excellency Colonel Khalid Abdulaziz Al Khayyat, for the federation’s efforts in creating the perfect atmosphere for the members of the team to compete in this sport event, which is being held for the first time in Asia.
